Terms of Service

last updated: 13 October 2026

These terms govern your use of Alpino, a bicycle route planner with 3D route preview, indoor trainer rides and social features, available on this website. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy.

1. Who provides Alpino

Alpino is provided by quebi GmbH, Geitau 22, 83735 Bayrischzell, Germany ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hi@quebi.de. Full provider details are in the Imprint.

2. Scope and acceptance

You can plan routes, use the 3D view and ride with a trainer without an account. By using Alpino you agree to these terms. When you create an account you confirm this explicitly; the contract for the account then exists between you and us under these terms.

Alpino is offered to private individuals for personal, non-commercial use. Terms of a user that differ from these do not apply.

3. The service

Alpino is free of charge. It calculates bicycle routes in your browser from map data, shows them on 2D maps and in a 3D view, lets you ride routes on a smart trainer, and, with an account, lets you save and share routes, upload and share rides, keep a profile and follow other riders. Routing covers the area described on our home page; background maps and imagery come from third-party map services.

We provide Alpino as it is and as available. Because it is a free service under continuous development, we may add, change or remove features, change the covered area or interrupt the service (for example for maintenance) at any time. We have no obligation to keep Alpino or any particular feature available. Where we discontinue the service as a whole, we will try to tell account holders in advance so they can export their data.

Some features depend on your device and browser, for example WebGL for the 3D view or Web Bluetooth for trainers and sensors. For ANT+ devices and browsers without Web Bluetooth we offer a bridge program that you can download and run on your own computer; it only talks to your browser on your computer.

4. Accounts

  • You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
  • Provide a valid email address that you control and choose a display name that does not impersonate others or infringe their rights.
  • One person per account. Keep your password secret and use one you do not use elsewhere. Tell us without delay if you think someone else is using your account.
  • You can export your data and delete your account at any time from the menu (Export my data, Delete account). Deleting your account ends this contract.
  • We may suspend or delete an account that breaches these terms or the law, after a warning where that is reasonable. Where we delete an account for reasons other than a serious breach, we will give at least two weeks' notice by email.

5. Your content

Your content is what you put into Alpino: route names and waypoints, saved routes, rides and ride files you record or upload, your display name, profile settings and whom you follow. You keep all rights to your content.

You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to store, copy, process and display your content, only as far as needed to run Alpino and only to the audience you choose: private content to you alone, unlisted content to anyone with its link, public content to everyone, including on your profile, in the feeds of riders who follow you and in link previews of shared links. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that others already received (for example a GPX file someone downloaded from a public route) and for backups that are overwritten in the normal course.

You are responsible for your content and confirm that you have the rights to upload it. Ride files can reveal where you live or train; think about this before making rides public, and note that routes and rides are private when you create them.

6. Acceptable use

When using Alpino you must not:

  • break the law or infringe the rights of others, including privacy, copyright and trademark rights;
  • upload unlawful, offensive or misleading content, or use names, route names or ride names to harass or insult others;
  • upload other people's ride data without their permission, or track other riders;
  • interfere with the service or other users: no attacks, malware, circumventing rate limits or access controls, and no fake or manipulated data in multiplayer rides or events;
  • download map data, tiles or other content in bulk, scrape the service or put an unreasonable load on it or on the third-party map servers it uses;
  • use Alpino commercially, for example to resell it or its data, without our prior written consent.

We may remove content or restrict access that breaches these rules. If you find content that you think is unlawful, tell us at hi@quebi.de.

7. Map data and licences

The routing data and much of the 3D world are derived from OpenStreetMap: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL); see openstreetmap.org/copyright. Our routing, building, land-cover and tree tiles are derived databases under the ODbL. Alpino also uses:

  • Map tiles: OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation), CyclOSM, OpenTopoMap (CC BY-SA; SRTM), basemap.de (© BKG, CC BY 4.0).
  • Route overlays: © waymarkedtrails.org (CC BY-SA).
  • Elevation: Mapterhorn elevation tiles, compiled from open elevation data (see mapterhorn.com for the sources).
  • Imagery and relief: Esri World Imagery and World Hillshade (Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics, the GIS User Community; Esri, USGS, NGA, NASA), used under Esri's terms; aerial images DOP40 and relief © Bayerische Vermessungsverwaltung (CC BY 4.0).
  • 3D buildings: 3D-Gebäudemodelle LoD2 © Bayerische Vermessungsverwaltung (CC BY 4.0); Generalisiertes Dachmodell LOD2.1, Datenquelle: Stadt Wien – data.wien.gv.at (CC BY 4.0); 3D Geodaten © Stadt Linz, data.linz.gv.at (CC BY 4.0); swissBUILDINGS3D 3.0 © swisstopo; where used, building data © Overture Maps Foundation (ODbL) and its sources.
  • 3D trees: Einzelbäume © Bayerische Vermessungsverwaltung (CC BY 4.0); trees detected in the airborne laser scanning height models ALS DSM and DTM © BEV (CC BY 4.0).
  • Textures: Poly Haven (CC0).

These licences continue to apply to the data, including in routes and GPX files you export. Third-party map services are provided by their operators under their own terms; we have no influence on their availability.

8. Safety: routes are suggestions

Routes are calculated automatically from map data that can be incomplete, outdated or wrong. A route may lead over roads that are closed, dangerous, unsuitable for your bike or your abilities, or where cycling is not allowed. Distances, climbing, gradients and surfaces are estimates. The 3D view is an approximation, not a true picture of the terrain.

  • Check every route before you ride it, and the current road, weather and trail conditions on the day.
  • Obey traffic law and signs, local rules for trails and protected areas, and closures. They always take precedence over a route.
  • Ride within your abilities and fitness, use suitable equipment and do not operate the app while riding.
  • Mountain roads and passes can be steep, exposed, unlit in tunnels and closed in winter. Plan accordingly.

Indoor training

Training on a smart trainer can be strenuous. If you have health problems or are unsure, ask a doctor before you start. Stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness or shortness of breath. Set up your trainer as its manufacturer instructs. Trainer control (resistance from gradients, ERG targets, virtual shifting) and the values shown (power, speed, heart rate, calories) depend on your devices and may be inaccurate. Alpino is not a medical product.

9. Liability

Alpino is free of charge. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz) and where we have given a guarantee. For slight negligence we are liable only for breaches of essential contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place and on whose observance you may regularly rely), and then limited to the damage typical for this kind of contract and foreseeable when it was concluded. Otherwise our liability for slight negligence is excluded.

In particular, as far as legally permitted, we are not liable for the correctness, completeness or suitability of routes and map data, for the availability of the service or of third-party map servers, or for the loss of data you did not save or export. These limitations also apply to our representatives and agents.

10. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms for valid reasons, for example new features, changes in the law or court decisions. We will tell account holders about changes by email or in the app at least four weeks before they take effect. If you do not object before then, the changes apply; we will point this out in the notice. If you object, either side may end the contract, and you can export your data before your account is deleted. The current version is always on this page.

11. Governing law and final provisions

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer with your habitual residence in another country, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of that country remain unaffected. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. If any provision of these terms is invalid, the rest remain in force.
